The Best Time to Sow Onion Seeds
To sow onion seeds, you'll need seed trays or pots, a fine seed compost, and a watering can. If you're sowing them inside, start sowing in later winter to early spring, for outside sowing, wait until late spring to early summer.
Sow the seeds in seed trays around 0.5 cm deep in pots, if sowing in trays, scatter a thin later of seed - then lightly cover the seeds with compost.
To settle the soil around the seeds, gently water them with a watering can (use a fine rose to avoid displacing the seeds)
As the seeds turn into seedlings, keep the water moist, but not waterlogged. Onions are typically ready to harvest when the tops turn yellow and start to fall over, usually in late summer to early autumn.
