A Planting Guide
The first step to planting your sprout seeds is to prepare the soil, thriving in well drained, fertile soil, it's best to enrich it with organic compost or manure - this ensures it is nutrient rich.
The best time to begin to sow the seeds is six to eight weeks before the last frost. You can use small seed trays or pots.
It's best to sow the seeds around 1/2 inch deep and space the seeds around 2 to 3 inches apart to give the seedlings space to grow. Once they reach 4-6 inches tall, transplant the seedlings to the outside.
It's important to keep the sprout plant constantly moist but not waterlogged. After around 85 to 110 days, the Brussel sprouts can be harvested and enjoyed.
Seasonal Tips
The idea month for these seeds to be sown is April. During this time, the days lengthen and the temperature rises, the soil warms up, this means it is the optimal condition for these seeds to grow. Sowing in April allows seedlings to establish a strong root system before the heat of summer sets in, ensuring robust plant development.
Additionally, starting your Brussels sprouts in April gives the plants plenty of time to mature before the first frost in late Autumn. Brussels sprouts are a cool-season crop that thrives in cooler temperatures, and they often taste sweeter after a light frost.
