Types of Spinach Seeds

Selecting the right type of spinach is an important part of ensuring you have a successful harvest.

Baby Spinach Seeds

Perfect for those who love tender and mild flavoured leaves, baby spinach is a quick growing variety. It's ideal for salads and smoothies and can be enjoyed in a constant supply throughout growing season with successional sowing.

Perpetual Spinach Seeds

For gardeners who are looking for a reliable variety, perpetual spinach seeds are the way to go. Also known as chard, this type can be harvested year round in milder climates. It's commonly known for its good bolting resistance and its ability to thrive in hot weather, as well as cooler conditions.

Spinach Medania Seeds

Planting Spinach Seeds

Spinach seeds thrive in moist soil and can tolerate semi shade, so it's best to select a planting site that has well drained soil and partial sun exposure. For those with limited space, consider planting spinach in containers.

Sowing Spinach Seeds

Spinach seeds are best sown in early spring or late summer to ensure optimal growth. Plant seeds about 1/2 an inch deep and in rows that are 2 inches apart. For tall crops, allow extra space for sufficient growth.

Before sowing, prepare the soil by removing any weeds and breaking up large clumps. Add compost to enrich the soil and improve moisture retention.

After sowing, water the soil gently to keep it evenly moist. Consistent moisture is crucial to prevent the soil from drying out, especially during dry spells.
