Rudolph Broccoli seeds are an extra early purple sprouting variety that produces large, high-quality spears starting in late January. Thriving in full sun, this broccoli delivers rich purple spears that are both flavourful and robust.
For best results, harvest regularly to prevent the spears from going to seed. Begin by picking the central spear first to encourage the growth of side shoots, ensuring a continuous and abundant crop.
Pack Size: Approximately 100 Seeds
Sowing Timeframe
- Timing: Sow Rudolph Broccoli seeds from March to early June.
Sowing Location
- Sow seeds thinly in a well-prepared seed bed in shallow drills, 1.5cm (½") deep, in short rows.
- Alternatively, sow thinly in seed trays or place two seeds per cell in modules under glass at 13°C.
Seedling Care
- For outdoor sowings, thin seedlings to 7-10cm (3-4") apart. Once large enough, transplant to final positions with 60cm (24") spacing between plants and 90cm (36") between rows.
- Glasshouse seedlings should be pricked out when they show their first leaves, spacing 5cm (2") apart or thinning to one seedling per cell. Gradually harden off before transplanting outdoors when plants reach 15cm (6") tall, using the same spacing.
Harvest Window
- Maturity: Late February to April of the following year.
Growing Tip
- Harvest the central spear first to encourage the growth of numerous side shoots.
